Wyclef Jean rocked in Mumbai!

You couldn’t believe my happiness when I saw on mumbai.indivibe.com that Wyclef Jean is having a tour in India. He was visiting Bangalore, Pune, and having grand finale in Mumbai!

Tickets were quite cheap, 750 INR (Paul Van Dyk was 1500 INR for example), the only problem was space, as it was done in Hard Rock Cafe. We came something around 21h there, it was quite crowded, and I knew more and more will come.

First time I saw this much foreigners on one place. Usually it’s opposite, major Indians, and some int faces. Now, absolute difference, like all Mumbai expats gathered there. Time was passing, and passing, but no Wyclef on the stage.

Now, just to make sure you understand the environment, imagine people stacked as sardines in a can, A/C not strong enough to cool down everyone, each person looking as had shower few mins ago, sweating and sweating more. Going to get a drink or to WC meant at least 1h of serious struggle. We were standing (while nice R’n'B mix was going in the background), boiling, beer was getting over, 1h and 30mins passed from the announced start, but Wyclef was not there. After a while the mass started to whistle. Looked like Serbian derby matches, when they start “Uprava napolje” cheering :-).

They tried to animate us with some samba dance act (why the hell samba during Rap concert?), but no luck. Finally, the band came out, and show started!

I didn’t had much expectation, especially as I don’t know his new work, but more The Fugees tracks, Wyclef first rap band. So I was not expecting much, but how wrong I was. From the moment he came up the stage he literally blew us off the floor with his energy, enthusiasm and performance!

Starting with a remix of old Fugees songs, to Bob Marley “Wanna be a president of USA”, playing guitar with his mouth! He continued with a few hits like “Sweetest girl” he made with Akon and Lil Wayne (he had an Indian kid dancing on a stage and singing Akon part) to duet with Shakira “Hips don’t lie” (see pics, where he got girls from the audience dancing on the stage like crazy)…show worth seeing.

Such a communication with the crowd I didn’t saw for a long time (to be honest, never), he was mixing with the crowd, asking Indian girls to teach him some Hindi, rapping from the middle of the audience.

Unfortunately I needed to leave, as my friends from Serbia (Marko and Ivana) needed to get to the airport to pick up their lost luggage. So we went off after 1h 30mins of the concert, full of impressions.

If you ever get a chance to see him live…don’t even think twice, it’s worth every dime you pay!

In the mid may one more DJ start is coming to Mumbai, one of my fav DJs, DJ Antoine Clamaran from France, stay tuned for more news ;-).
